Last year, REI closed on Black Friday and encouraged us to #OptOutside. The retailer will continue the tradition again this year. This year, Patagonia’s virtual and retail doors will remain open on Black Friday but they will donate 100 percent of its sales to the environment.
The company will donate that money to small grassroots organizations that fight for clean water, air and soil. The company has donated over $74 million to date to environmental causes, according to this Adweek article.
According to Patagonia’s CEO Rose Marcario,
during a difficult and divisive time, we felt it was important to go further and connect more of our customers, who love wild places, with those who are fighting tirelessly to protect them
