Campaign: TipsyElves Donate to Cancer Charity
Company: TipsyElves.com
Nonprofit Partner: Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C)
Launch Date: December, 2013
Campaign:
Tipsy Elves, a San Diego based “ugly Christmas sweater” retailer, has announced a new cause marketing partnership with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). For every sweater sold on TipsyElves.com through Dec 31, 2013, $2.00 will be donated to SU2C. The elfin retailer has guaranteed a minimum $25,000 donation with a maximum of $100,000. The retailer also donates sweaters and other clothing items to children in need via their popular Sweaters 4 Sweaters campaign.
Our Take:
This retailer is clearly all about fun. Adding a cause component makes indulging on a light-hearted product even easier to justify. Building upon the whimsical nature of the product, Tipsy Elves is also cleverly suggesting that those who purchase sweaters during the sales period pledge to wear it a select number of days or throw an Ugly Sweater Party to raise even more funds for SU2C. Although the mood is light, this retailer appears to be taking its cause efforts seriously, clearly stating a respectable minimum and maximum donation.

Update from TipsyElves founder Evan Mendelsohn on the "Sweaters 4 Sweaters" program via email:
The Sweaters 4 Sweaters program started in 2011. It stands for our mission to dedicate a portion of our sales each year to purchasing brand new hoodies and other clothing items to children and families in need. Generally we aim to allocate around 5% of our annual sales to charity. This year we donated about $35,000 worth of brand new children’s hoodies to the San Diego Rescue Mission and a few other local organizations. I actually just dropped off about 300 hoodies this morning! In previous years, we’ve donated sweaters and a variety of Christmas hats.
