Charles Best, founder and CEO of DonorsChoose, a Bronx public school teacher who started the organization by bootstrapping to life a primitive website in 2000 that enabled people to support classrooms in need.
Since then, DonorsChoose has raised over $1.1 billion to fulfill nearly 2 million classroom requests emanating from 85% of all public schools in America.
Charles created and led a team that has crafted many creative and effective ways for companies to engage consumers and employees in partnership with DonorsChoose. That groundbreaking work led Engage for Good to honor DonorsChoose with its highest honor, the Golden Halo Award, in 2011 and for the organization and its corporate partners to win many EFG Halos for specific programs over the years.
This year Charles decided to hand the CEO’s mantle over to a successor in 2022 and has been intimately involved in helping find the organization’s next leader.
