Effective October 10, 2013, Maine has repealed its law requiring a commercial coventurer to register and post bonds to run charitable sales promotions in the State of Maine. In repealing its registration law, Maine joins Washington State, which repealed a similar registration system in 2007. A copy of the new law, L.D. 1277, can be found at here.
The remaining states where a CCV has some form of registration duty include Massachusetts, Alabama, Illinois, South Carolina, Mississippi and Hawaii. The benefiting nonprofit organization continues to have a duty to file a copy of the CCV contract in New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey, Arkansas and Utah, as well as to report dealings with CCVs on annual reports in many states.
