Campaign: Show Your Stripes
Company: Clear Channel
Nonprofit Partner: None
Launch Date: June 6, 2013
Campaign Description:
Media company Clear Channel has launched a new cause marketing effort – iHeartRadio’s Show Your Stripes – an initiative to address the issue of unemployment among U.S. military veterans and encourage businesses to hire skilled veterans. Clear Channel will spend more than $75 million in radio, digital and out-of-home resources to highlight the skills brought back by returning servicemen and women and their value to employers in the workplace. All public service announcements will direct listeners to showyourstripes.org – a centralized, destination for veterans, businesses and supporters, designed in partnership with Monster Worldwide and Military.com. To launch the campaign, artists including Elton John, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have recorded a series of PSAs that showcase stories from veterans who have successfully found jobs. Military and Monster.com will donate 15% of all job postings via Show Your Stripes to nonprofit HireHeroes.org. A minimum of $25K will be contributed to Hire Heroes USA to fund one-on-one job training.
Our Take:
Clear Channel is leaving no stone unturned in their effort to get veterans back to work, as evidenced by their multiple partnerships within this campaign. Of particular importance, a coalition of American businesses identified as being military-friendly and which have already experienced success in hiring veterans including American Airlines, Capital One, The Coca-Cola Company, Comcast and NBCUniversal, Facebook, FedEx, General Electric, General Mills, The Home Depot, jcpenney, JetBlue, Johnson & Johnson, Walgreens and Wells Fargo, to name a few. The key will be in activating veterans to utilize the platform by connecting with them where they already “live” online and off. Your thoughts? Add them in the comments below.
