Amazon and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the nation’s largest literacy organization, have joined forces to empower Amazon customers to help ignite a passion for reading among children across the U.S. who may have limited or no access to books in their homes. From now through March 4, customers can send a book from a Wish List of 50 RIF-designated book titles on Amazon.com that the nonprofit will supply to children in need across the country. Amazon is promoting this opportunity through its extensive digital channels, on its home page and on specific product pages.
It doesn’t appear that Amazon is making any sort of donation to the charity, but rather using its huge reach to encourage consumer action.
Alicia Levi, President and CEO of Reading Is Fundamental, said,
With its earliest roots as a groundbreaking bookseller, Amazon shares with RIF a common commitment to a literate America, and we are excited to share with Amazon customers the opportunity to ensure that children with the greatest need receive brand new books to call their own.
