When you hear the word philanthropist, who comes to mind? Billionaires such as Warren Buffett, Bill and Melinda Gates? Sara Blakely? Jeff Bezos?
Those names are known around the world for their passionate giving, but what about the everyday professional who wants to understand the world outside their cube and how they can make a difference?
MailChimp, Inc. magazine’s firm of the year, set out on a journey to help its future leaders understand the role philanthropy plays in Atlanta, and how each of them could make a difference, independently and collectively to inspire positive change. Through an innovative partnership with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, a 20-week curriculum, dubbed “Community College” was born.
Dozens of civic leaders, nonprofit executives, and community organizers empowered deep conversations about the work they do and the challenges they face. The Community College “students” also visited local nonprofits to see their work first-hand. And, they learned all the ins-and- outs of what to look for in terms of nonprofits making sustainable, effective change. Last, the students used this new-found knowledge to award a total of $200,000 in grants to organizations making the biggest impact.
In this webinar, MailChimp’s Lain Shakespeare and Elyse Hammett of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta will share how they worked together to create a corporate giving program that sets new standards for cooperation and effective philanthropy.
You will learn how to:
- Empower employees to become active in effective workplace giving
- Engage community foundations to create meaningful connections with nonprofits
- Position your nonprofit as a worthwhile partner for employee giving programs
