Company: Fashion Project + Nordstrom
Nonprofit Partner: Consumer Choice
Launch Date: March 18, 2014
Campaign:
High end clothing donation site Fashion Project has announced a new partnership with Nordstrom. When participants donate five qualifying items via a pre-paid donation envelope, 55% of the proceeds from the resale of the items (after a $20 processing fee) will benefit a registered charity of the participant’s choice. In addition, participants will now also be able to earn a $40 Nordstrom Gift Card once they’ve sent 5 qualified items.
Our Take:
The traditional clothing donation/resale model gets a makeover with this smart cause-based business. The company claims to earn 100 times more than an average thrift store for donations and does so by putting high standards around the items it will accept and then reselling them at a premium. By making donations simple (pre-paid envelope), keeping a focus on charitable giving (consumer choice) and incentivizing consumers with a Nordstrom gift card for repeat donations, Fashion Project provides a win for consumer, cause and brand.
