Campaign: Run4Good iPhone App
Company: Saucony
Nonprofit Partner: American Diabetes Association New England, Eric Thomas Foundation, Mount Desert Island YMCA®, Marathon High, United Way® of Northeast Florida
Launch Date: August 29 2012
Campaign Description:
This September, in support of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, Saucony invites runners to download the new Saucony Run4Good(TM) iPhone app..and go run. With every mile, runners will be earning money for community youth running programs. For the next five months, beginning in September, a community mileage challenge will be set. If the community mileage goal is reached during that month, Saucony will double its pledged contribution to one of five featured organizations. Saucony’s September pledge is set at $10,000.
Our Take:
With running apps predicted to increase more than tenfold by 2016, this cause-based running app may help Saucony differentiate its brand among competitors. To incentivize participation, gamified elements will allow runners to challenge friends and join teams to accumulate mileage. Interestingly, the selected nonprofits are all local organizations. Will this app go the distance? It will likely depend on Saucony’s long-term commitment to the app’s ongoing development, the quality of the user-experience and the local nonprofits’ ability to get their constituents to pull out their iPhones and lace up their running shoes.
