Campaign: MathMovesU
Company: Raytheon
Nonprofit Partner: None
Launch Date: September 12, 2012
Campaign Description:
Raytheon Company has launched its “Mission to Mars” campaign, designed to inspire interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Intended to engage teachers and students, the MathMovesU Facebook celebration includes a “Mission to Mars” game, a video contest for teachers to compete for a classroom grant of up to $5,000, and an interactive opinion poll.
Our Take:
This message-focused initiative demonstrates an effective way to reach a target audience where they live online. Leveraging the Mars Rover landing event, the Facebook game has players navigating through space to reach Mars and avoiding quirky “space junk”. Challenging school classes in a $5,000 contest to demonstrate an interesting fact about space using an APPLE as the main prop is also a fun way to engage teachers and show students there are more things on Facebook than LOLcats.
